1. Webmaster | 2006-11-16 | Engelska HOT topic
We'd like to clarify some of the rules on getting points and give tips on smart ways to earn extra points.

First of all, it's not really the quantity but the quality what we'd like to see. That's why we often choose quality blogs or forum topics and give out free games. So if you create a good discussion or a blog or even a photo album, one posting might be enough! Or even if you don't get the free game, we also choose a lot of HOT topics/blogs/albums, which grants you 1500 points each instantly.

There are three main ways to get points:

1. Write a blog which gets picked as "hot". Every entry you write will get 500 points, and points are given retroactively to everything you wrote even before receiving the "hot" status. And before you ask - no, it's not hard to be picked "hot". Good, original writing is all we ask. We don't care about spelling or grammar errors, the use of correct language or anything like that. If the blog is entertaining and updated regularly, it'll become "hot" (however, blogs where the content is obviously copied from somewhere else, will not). And while good text will do just fine, decorating your blog with photos and images will obviously increase its chances.

2. Upload quality photos. When we see a photo we like, it gets picked as "hot". Not only will you receive 1000 points, but also your photo is prominently displayed on the photos main page and elsewhere on the site. Who doesn't want free publicity, huh? We'll soon start a photo popularity contest with weekly awards... stay tuned!

3. Write to the forum. Each topic you start gets 100 points, and the topics under the games category will get twice that. Every reply will get you points, too. Be active, talk. Don't create topics just to get points though. It's better to not think about the points - rather, create discussions and participate by talking with others... you'll earn a pile of points before you know it!

A reminder: We may delete anything from the website if it is offensive, breaks international copyright laws or somehow just is not of the quality (considered spamming) our visitors like to see. Whenever a topic/blog/album is deleted by the moderators, you will lose double points or even more. We generally don't want to delete anything, but we also want to keep the site clean and nice for everyone. The idea behind the points system is that we want to see people post things that others may want to read. When posting, please think: Do I WANT do read stuff like this MYSELF?

To make it easier to see what's going on we've designed symbols that are displayed next to items posted on the website. Here are the meanings:

New item. No points awarded for this, it just shows that this item was posted in the past 24 hours.

HOT item. This means the content is deemed interesting or good quality by the moderators.  The authors receive 1500 points for each HOT item.

Weekly star! Each week we pick the best posting (it can be a blog, photo album or a forum topic) and award the author a free game of choice!

Thanks to everyone who has posted and keep on posting! We love to see your photos and read your thoughts! smiley

Just a reminder of the limits... 100.000 points is needed for a free game. You'll get 1000 points for a friend you invite, 100 points for each forum topic and 1500 point if it gets nominated HOT (and 500 extra points if it gets popular). The same goes for blog entries.

Detailed point rules can be found here: http://en.xihalife.com/home/pointrules.php

webmaster, is the game feeding frenzy available here in xihalife.com? smiley
4. Mary | 2007-02-4 | Engelska
webmaster, what happens once you get 100,000 pts. ? Is a message sent, or do you just download the game, or what?
5. Webmaster | 2007-02-5 | Engelska
Nothing special happens. You are allowed to accumulate any number of points you want. You can, however, use points to pay for games once you have enough of them. When you want to buy a game with points you just send me a message saying which game you wish to get and mention that you will want to pay using points.

When paying with points we will review your account to make sure the points are valid. Things like inviting yourself to join dozens of times to get referral points, or posting photos or blog or forum articles with no content would be cleared from your account at that point. We generally try to delete such items when we see them (say, posting a forum topic with text like "xcjxcbxbcasds" only) as they're clearly hurting the community. The "quality over quantity" and "would I want to read this myself?" rules apply. Deletion of items by the management leads to 2x points being removed from the account.

Now, once the account has been reviewed and the points appear valid, we'll send you the game! smiley

What was that part about free points when you sign up
15. Jani | 2007-07-20 | Engelska
Free points? Not sure what you mean. You get points for everything you do, even posting the above question. I see you already have 650 points collected... then those points can get you free games. Is that what you mean..? smiley
16. crista | 2007-07-21 | Engelska
in "xihalife.com"all the games are trial for 1 hr cant we get them free???smileysmiley
17. Jani | 2007-07-21 | Engelska
smileyNot sure what you mean... the trial versions expire after one hour, after that you need to buy the full version. You can TRY them ALL for free, so in that sense they are all free. However, the instructions above are for getting enough points to get the FULL version for free (no time limit). It is entirely possible to earn games for free by being active on xihalife.com... smiley

i heard Carrie the Caregiver 2  and Babysitting Mania were coming out soon. Is there an option to let us know when xihalife.com had certain games? Also, how do you redeem points for games?
22. Webmaster | 2007-08-15 | Engelska
We usually get new games really quickly so they'll likely be available right away when they're finished. smiley

We will very soon start an email update service which will notify of the new games added. You can adjust your email options in the user info page - make sure your email is valid in order to get all the important news! (Obviously, you can also easily opt out of all email communication at any time if you wish)

You will redeem points by contacting the webmaster (that would be me!) in a private message and telling which game you wish to get. You will then receive an unlock code for the game, just like you would when making a purchase.
23. Jing Jing | 2007-08-16 | Engelska
How do we contact you? that's the other problem. How do i send mail??
24. Webmaster | 2007-08-16 | Engelska
jjl2357: How do we contact you? that's the other problem. How do i send mail??
It's really easy to contact me! Just click my face or name or the link that says "Whisper" and you will get to my space on xihalife. At the bottom of the page there is a box for sending a message. If you want to send a private message, just check the box that says "private".
25. Jing Jing | 2007-08-17 | Engelska

jjl2357: where can we see which discussion won the free game? other than scrolling through everything trying to find the orange symbol?

Often the game prizes were awarded based on many topics, or general activity. It lists that on the weekly star page. However, starting right now we have a new competition where you can win free games every week! Click the link below for details:

XIHA Competition - win free games

The first week's topic was just announced: it's Food DIY: tomato smiley You have until 10AM on August 26 to submit food recipes containing tomato, and the best submissions win free games! Now, click the link to read all the details, this sounds too good to be true!!
31. Webmaster | 2007-08-18 | Engelska
what do you mean by "popular"? mr.webmaster?

Popular means that something has been viewed a certain number of times... it's hard to say a number, because the limits are adjusted based on the traffic to the site, so the popular keeps relatively "popular" compared to the rest of the site... makes sense?
32. Jing Jing | 2007-08-20 | Engelska
thank you!
33. Jing Jing | 2007-08-29 | Engelska
We will very soon start an email update service which will notify of the new games added.

35. Nolan | 2007-10-12 | Engelska
Is it possible to have a bookwriting contest? Like, get 2 months to write a book and send it in, and the best one wins 5,000 pts? I think it should be easier to get pts.
36. Jing Jing | 2007-10-12 | Engelska
i think it should be easier to get points, but i like the game review ones...
37. Jani | 2007-10-12 | Engelska
Hmm... I think if you spend two months writing a book you deserve more than 5000 points!

You know one problem is that people don't like to do *anything* to get the free game. We have the weekly competition and we have noticed that if people need to write a few sentences on their own, most people feel that's too much work. And the prize is a full game (worth $19.99 / 100,000 points)! Last week we asked people send jokes and the best joke would win - more than 10,000 people checked the competition page but only a few people actually participated... smiley
38. Nolan | 2007-10-13 | Engelska
Thanks Jani!
I'm a good 40% way through my book, and I was wondering if you *might* revise it.
By the way, how many points do you get just for uploading an original photo, like my Cooking Failure?
39. Jani | 2007-10-13 | Engelska
Uploading a photo doesn't net you points but if it's a good photo it will likely be picked as "hot" which gives you 1000 points! If you have good original photos you should definitely upload them to your album! smiley

What is "Cooking Failure"? smiley

Oh and what is your book about??
40. Nolan | 2007-10-13 | Engelska
"Cooking Failure" is a paint jpg that shows me trying to cook.
Book: It is based on The Series of Unfortunate events. I am writing book 14, as 1-13 are out. The original author refuses to publish book 14, so I took up the narrative. It is about 3-7 children running away from an enemy as orphans.
41. Jani | 2007-10-13 | Engelska
Cool... sounds interesting... when you say the original author refuses to publish book 14, do you mean it has been written but he doesn't give rights to publish it? Or is he not even writing it?
42. Nolan | 2007-10-13 | Engelska
He isn't even writing it. Many other people are attempting to do what I do: making a book 14. I think one fan club had a contest. Anyway, what I'm doing isn't too common. My best subject is English and writing. I also draw a few comics.
How many points for a game review? Does it have to be the first?
43. Nolan | 2007-10-13 | Engelska
Also, what is the best way to get points/games period?
44. Jani | 2007-10-13 | Engelska
How many points for a game review? Does it have to be the first?

Same as game topics, which currently is 200 points. Doesn't need to be the first but you can review each game only once.

Also, what is the best way to get points/games period?

Other than winning the weekly competition? "Doing stuff", basically. Be active. Invite friends to join, that's 1000 points each who joins (and doesn't become inactive immediatelly, to cut out fakes). Post quality content which gets picked as "hot", those range from 1000 points (photos) to 1500 points (forum topics) to 500 points per entry for blogs...
